If you have been in a car accident, or other road accident, you may have injuries from bruises to broken bones, whiplash, shock, or something more serious. Your injury may have required time off work, affecting your income and standard of living.

Head Injury
Severe head injuries resulting in severe brain damage where there will be little, if any, evidence of meaningful response to environment up to £403,990.
Injuries involving minor brain damage where a good recovery has been made but symptoms such as poor concentration and memory problems continue, up to £43,060.
Minor injuries involving no or minimal brain damage up to £12,770.

Neck Injury
Severe: Neck injury associated with incomplete paraplegia or resulting in permanent spastic quadriparesis. In the region of £148,330.
Moderate: Injuries such as fractures or dislocations which cause severe immediate symptoms and which may necessitate spinal fusion. £24,990 to £38,490.
Minor: Where a full recovery takes place within a period of about one to two years. In the region of £4,350 to £7,890.

Shoulder Injury
Serious dislocated shoulder causing pain in shoulder and neck, aching in elbow, weakness of arm and hand. £12,770 to £19,200.
Moderate injuries eg: frozen shoulder causing limitation of movement and discomfort for up to two years £7,890 to £12,770.
Minor injury, e.g. soft tissue damage causing considerable pain but recovery almost complete within one year up to £7,890.

Serious fractures where there is significant or permanent disability from £39,170 to £59,860.
Serious fractures with good recovery or good expected recovery. £19,200 to £39,170.
Simple Fractures of the Forearm. £6,610 to £19,200.

Hand Injury
Severe fracture to fingers with partial amputations resulting in deformity, impairment of grip, reduced function up to £36,740.
Loss of index finger up to £18,740.
Fracture of index finger with impairment of grip from £9,110 to £12,240.
Amputation of middle finger up to £24,990.
Serious injury to ring or middle fingers £10,320 to £16,3400.
Loss of terminal phalanx of ring or middle fingers from £3,950 to £7,870.
Amputation of little finger up to £21,810.
Fracture of one finger with complete recovery (dependant on recovery time) up to £4,750.

Chest Injury
Severe: Removal of one lung and/or serious heart damage with serious and prolonged pain and suffering and permanent significant scarring.

Moderate: A relatively simple injury (such as a single penetrating wound) causing some permanent damage to tissue but with no significant long-term effect on lung function.
£12,590 to £17,960.
Minor: Fractures of ribs or soft tissue injuries causing serious pain and disability over a period of weeks only up to £3,950.

Hip or Pelvis Injury
Severe: Extensive fractures of the pelvis involving, for example, dislocation of a low back joint and a ruptured bladder, or a hip injury resulting in spondylolisthesis of a low back joint with intolerable pain and necessitating spinal fusion. £78,400 to £130,930.
Moderate: Significant injury to the pelvis or hip but any permanent disability is not major and any future risk not great. £26,590 to £39,170.
Minor: Minor soft tissue injuries with complete recovery. Up to £3,950.

Knee Injury
Severe knee injury where there has been disruption of the joint from £69,730 to £96,210.
Torn cartilage or meniscus, dislocation, ligamentous damage injuries resulting in minor instability or weakness from £14,840 to £26,190.
On-going symptoms eg: aching/discomfort/occasional pain, up to £13,740.

Leg Injury
Severe leg injuries where there has been gross shortening of the leg from £96,250 to £135,920.
Moderate leg injuries including complicated or multiple fractures from £27,760 to £39,200.
Simple fracture with full recovery from £9,110 to £14,080.

Back Injury
Severe: Cases of the most severe injury involving damage to the spinal cord and nerve roots, leading to a combination of very serious consequences not normally found in cases of back injury. £91,090 to £160,980.
Moderate: Disturbance of ligaments and muscles giving rise to backache. £12,510 to £27,760.
Minor: Sprains, Strains and soft tissue injuries. Up to £12,510.

Injuries leading to impaired function but no major surgery or significant disability from £15,650 to £32,010.
