Compensation claim for refuse collector
We recently took on a case involving a refuse collector who suffered serious foot injuries when he jumped from a moving vehicle and the front wheel ran over his foot.
At first glance, it might have seemed obvious that our client was responsible for the accident. In fact, he almost decided not to seek legal advice because he believed he was to blame. However, looking more closely at the circumstances revealed a number of important issues.
Jumping from the vehicle before it had come to a complete stop was common practice among the crew. Supervisors were aware of this and had done nothing to prevent it. There were also concerns about the training provided and the suitability of the footwear supplied.
What initially appeared to be a straightforward case of an employee’s own actions raised wider questions about workplace practices and safety.
Workplace accidents are not always as straightforward as they first appear. If you’ve been injured at work and believe you were at fault, don’t rule out making a claim without first seeking legal advice.
